Cats are often perceived as solitary, aloof animals, wandering alone and independent. This is true of the wild ferral cat that will hunt alone. But domesticated cats are incredibly flexible and able to adapt and fit into their existing environment. Even some ferral cats are known to feed in social groups.
In the home the cat tends to view us humans as very large cats! The fact that they are able to accept and live with us is proof that they socially adapt.
A female cat will help a Queen feed and groom her kittens whilst she is away hunting for food. But whilst cats hunt they do tend to prefer solitude. But will feed in groups if a food source is found.
It is this flexibility that has been the success of the cat - it can accept any mode of living.
The reason for your cat's behaviour maybe due to an underlying medical reason. If you are concerned about your cat, always consult your vet or a cat behaviourist for professional, qualified advice.
