There are three suggested reasons as to why cats can sense earthquakes.
One is that cats may be sensitive to the minute tremors that build up preceeding an earthquake.
Secondly that they may be responsive to the static that builds up before an earthquake.
Thirdly cats could be sensitive to sudden shifts in the earth's magnetic field which accompany earthquakes.
However, it is certain that cats become intensely aggitated just before major earthquakes have struck.
The reason for your cat's behaviour maybe due to an underlying medical reason. If you are concerned about your cat, always consult your vet or a cat behaviourist for professional, qualified advice.
